New Phoenix Lawn Installation Service

To have a great looking Phoenix Lawn all year long can be a challenge. You can use sod or reseeding to replant your lawn or yard.

Seed or SOD

Re Seeding your Phoenix lawn is less expensive that using Sod. However a fresh seeded lawn can need long term care. There are also not as many times during a calendar year that you can reseed. Sod requires more skill and backwork to plant. Sod does however immediately look great in your yard.

Getting The Soil Ready

Preparation makes for a great looking Phoenix lawn. If you have a large area to work with you want to think about doing it in sections. The fastest way to get your lawn ready is rent a machine that will scalp the lawn for you. You will probably need a sod cutter.

Now that you have the sod cut up is a perfect time to take care of those drainage problems or uneven turf. Make sure the slope of the lawn is away from your house for water to drain. You can use a landscape rake to slope your lawn.

Now you need to create a firm work soil surface for your seed or sod to roll out onto. Make sure the roller is about 1/3 full of water. Continue to roll the yard or lawn until you can walk on the compacted soil.

Now use a turf cutting tool to cut the sod with. Take out any rocks or uneven areas one more time before your begin.

Laying Sod

First put down some fertilizer. Now lay strips around t the grass, yard or lawn perimeter first. Then work your way inward. Cut the squares and needed to fit with your sod cutting tool. This will make laying and installing sod in Phoenix much easier.

Next water the sod until it has been installed and completely soaked.

After each piece of the sod lawn has been installed be sure to soak it with water too.

Now if your laying sod or installing Phoenix sod on a slope you wan to work uphill not downhill.

Planting Seed

First start by spreading some fertilizer out. Now spread the seed according to the directions that came with the lawn grass seed bag. Don’t forget that not enough water is the biggest reason for a lawn grass installation not to go well, especially in Phoenix, AZ. For a brand new lawn installation you probably want to water about four times a day in the Valley here.

For sod you probably only need to water twice a day so. Remember that when you are mowing for the first time set the mower a little high so you don’t pull up any grass not rooted well yet or so you don’t cut any grass roots.

Keep foot traffic on your lawn to a minimum the first couple of weeks.

When the sod is all installed you need to roll it again with the roll about 1/3 full of water.

Keep the water coming and you are done with your new Phoenix lawn installation!
